Explosives factory at Hayle

So interesting to see a photo of Hayle Towans during World War One - we're doing research in Cornwall during the war years for our Heart of Conflict project and Pete  London's book Cornwall in the First World War  is a key read.
The National Explosives Factory was one of the country's leading suppliers to the forces.

Monsters exhibition in Truro

Not too be missed - an exhibition on monsters at the Royal Cornwall Museum,Truro, curated by Jayne  Wackett.  We've been working with Jayne on Heart of Conflict, our exhibition on WW1 in Cornwall.  It's due to open at the RCM  in September.  Pictured: Jayne giving a talk on monsters at the Museum.

Heart of Conflict meeting in Cornwall

Great to meet up with Rose Taylor and Valerie Grigg who are working on Heart of Conflict - our project on World War One in Cornwall. A good discussion in Camborne on life at home in Cornwall during the war years.
Valerie has done some impressive research.

Next steps in Heart of Conflict

Good to be taking the next steps in Heart of Conflict, our work marking the centenary of World War One in Cornwall. On the cards: an exhibition at the Royal Cornwall Museum, Truro, from September to December 2016.
Meetings with our volunteer Rose Taylor on general production plans and with WI members on our planned cooking competition. All agree it would be good to involve schools in this - to encourage interest in cooking and develop new skills.
Pictured: Redruth Wesleyan Chapel from the railway line below. The Chapel, and the young men who left from it, featured in Heart of Conflict last year. Many wrote back letters to the congregation from the Front.

Random art

Always love spontaneous piano playing - and where could be more welcome than here, first floor of Charing Cross Hospital in London. So many people with worries and illnesses, relatives to visit,  bereavement possibly.  The music lifts the spirits.
